Prunus Amanogawa | Japanese Flowering Cherry Tree
A spring blossom tree. The Japanese flowering cherries are a distinctive group of varieties stretching as far back as 1000 years. They are held in high regard in their homeland and are known as Sato-sakura meaning "village cherries"
Prunus Amanogawa, The Flagpole Cherry, is a distinctive columnar tree with erect branches. The oval leaves are greeny-bronze when young, later dark green, then red-gold in autumn. Dense clusters of fragrant semi-double light pink flowers in late April.
This is a small tree and will reach up to 4m after 10 years. It is tolerant of clay and chalk soil. These varieties prefer to be left along and would not benefit from any regular or structured pruning.
This tree is sold in a 12 litre container and is 150-200cm.
Prunus Amanogawa, The Flagpole Cherry, has been awarded the Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit indicating that the cultivar has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performer.
