Ligustrum Green Privet Bare Root Hedging Plants
Ligustrum Ovalifolium Green Privet
Bare Root Hedging Plants 80-100cm
This vigorous oval leaf privet makes an excellent pollution tolerant hedge for an urban or suburban sites. Thriving in sun or shade the lustrous dark green foliage provides a dense screen and can also be used as a backdrop for ornamental and feature plants.
Privet is a widely grown semi evergreen, meaning that it is generally evergreen but may lose some or all of its leaves in very hard winters or coastal areas.
It has rich green leaves and forms creamy white flowers in July which are attractive to butterflies and birds.
It is quite fast growing (approx 30cm per year) and should be trimmed a couple of times during the summer to encourage the formation of a dense formal hedge, resistant to pollution and therefore popular in urban and suburban gardens. It will grow well virtually anywhere other than wet sites.
Excellent for feeding and encouraging the birds in the winter.
It will mature into a tough attractive hedge that needs little care and attraction.
Planting season is between November and late March while the plant is in dormant growth. Dig a reasonable hole and plant with either some rose or tree compost or any organic matter (but not fresh manure, well rotted is fine) and plant with some bone meal or fish, blood and bone as this will encourage quick root growth. Do not water once planted (unless the ground is very dry) so the plant will find it's own water (make it work for it's water, creating strong root growth). Plant 4 per metre in a staggered row (in a double row 50cm apart and the rows 30cm apart) clipping the top leader on planting to encourage bushy growth. These plants will grow in any soil, in sun or shade.
Each plant is approx. 80-100cm and bare root.
