Ligustrum Aureum Golden Privet Hedging Plants
Ligustrum Aureum Golden Privet
Bare Root Hedging Plants 30-40cm
Golden Privet, sometimes called Variegated Privet, is a strong growing shrub similar to green privet except that it has bright golden markings on the leaves. It clips very well and so is often used for topiary.
Very slightly slower growing than green privet it does well in almost any soil except chalk and it tolerates quite deep shade and dry conditions. Medium-sized variegated green/gold leaves and fragrant white flowers in summer.
Privet is a widely grown semi evergreen, meaning that it is generally evergreen but may lose some or all of its leaves in very hard winters or coastal areas.
Creamy white flowers in July which are attractive to butterflies and birds.
Excellent for feeding and encouraging the birds in the winter.
Planting season is between November and late March while the plant is in dormant growth. Dig a reasonable hole and plant with either some rose or tree compost or any organic matter (but not fresh manure, well rotted is fine) and plant with some bone meal or fish, blood and bone as this will encourage quick root growth. Do not water once planted (unless the ground is very dry), so the plant will find it's own water (make it work for it's water, creating strong root growth). Plant 4 per metre in a staggered row (in a double row 50cm apart and the rows 30cm apart) clipping the top leader on planting to encourage bushy growth.
Each plant is approx 30-40cms and bare root.
