Pieris Japonica Bonfire Evergreen Shrub
Pieris Japonica Bonfire
This is a super plant for all year round colour, new growth is a fiery orange red fading to green later in the summer.
Beautiful upright flowers are produced in the spring, these are clusters of pure white with very showy maroon pink buds.
The plant becomes covered in these flowers giving an appearance of a flaming bonfire.
Pieris are compact evergreen shrubs with leathery dark green leaves often brightly coloured when young and small white urn-shaped flowers borne in panicles in spring
Pieris being thoroughly evergreen when spring's red leaves arrive they are always mixed about with the previous year's leaves of pure green, thus at a glance look like red flowers bursting upon the bush.
The red foliage precedes the flowers but not by long. Flowers of this clone are in full form by April, pendulous to partially upright chains of white urn-shaped flowers, long-lasting into May. These are followed in summer by small black berries.
